Lucky Charms 9/22/08

 • The Red Sox clinched their playoff spot tonight with their win against Cliff Lee and the Indians. I'm personally pissed because I have tickets to tomorrow night's game and was really hoping to see the clincher.
 • The Mets have reportedly singed Omar Minaya to a 4 year extension. I think this is a very good move. Minaya has turned this organization around. The Mets have very good players now and have a lot of talent in the lower levels of the minors. The Mets are and will be a good team for some time to come under the rule of Omar.
 • Santana stepped up tonight to beat the Cubs 6-2 by throwing a career-high 125 pitches in 8 innings of 2 run ball. Things got dicey in the 9th with Feliciano coming in and getting one out but allowing 2 men to reach base. Luis Ayala came in and got the save.
 • The Phillies lost tonight putting the Mets 1 1/2 games behind the Phillies. The Brewers beat the Pirates and are 1 game behind the Mets.
 • Santana is amazing and will not get nearly enough conisderation for the Cy Young award. Barring an terrible outing by Lincecum, Santana should finish 2nd in the voting but probably won't. More on this subject to come.

i have to disagree with you minaya i personally think he is awful

i mean just look at some of the trades he made

he made 3 good trades

1 santana will count as 1.5

2 maine which was by accident he was trying to get roberto hernandez and got maine as a throw in

3 perez alsoby accident he was tryin to get jorge julio once again a throw in (traded Xavier Nady here)this one sorta falls in the middle niether good nor bad i like ollie but nady turned out 2 be really good .5 good .5 bad

so thats 3 good ones and .5 bad so far

now lets take a look at some of the bad ones

1 one of the worst trades in history in my opinion

scott kazmir* for victor zambrano
ENOUGH SAID this will count as 2 since its so bad

2 Brian Bannister* for Ambiorix Burgos (who btw is now in jail for asualt)

3 just to name a few other prospects he traded away just looking for the quick fix as usual

Mike Jacobs, Matt Lindstrom*, angel pagan (reaquired this year)evan maclean dustin martin neal musser jesus flores bob keppel all these willcount as a total 2 bad points and 1 good

good points: 4

bad points: 6.5

6.5>4

Sorry B-stro but your wrong on so many things. 1. Maine he got with Julio not with Hernandez and he wouldn't have made the deal w/o Maine in the offer. Same goes for Perez. 2. You cannot count the Perez and Nady deal as a bad one because the Mets were in desperate need of relief when Sanchez went down with the taxi injury. Also, he wouldn't have traded Hernandez for Nady straight up. So you can hardly call it an accident. 3.Kazmir for Zambrano is one of the worst trades in history but it wasn't made by Minaya. 4. Bannister for Burgos CANNOT be considered a bad trade yet. Bannister sucked this year and Burgos had an injury that put him out. He is an ass who beat his wife but he also has a lot of potential. 4. Jesus Flores was a big mistake but he was not traded he was just not on the 40-man roster and thus vulnerable to the Rule V draft which is how the Nationals got him. 5. You're using the term "quick fix" very generally. Jacobs was traded because we wanted Delgado, the guy you yourself was advocating for MVP. Jacobs is solid but he is no Delgado. Lindstrom is a complicated situation because he had no options left and the Mets relief corps was very solid at the time and the starting rotation did not have depth. They traded depth in one area (relief) to get depth in another (starting). 6. A point system? Really? You cannot evaluate these with a point system. Also all of these trades cannot be fully evaluated at the time seeing as many of the prospects have not yet had a chance or are not old enough to see what they can become. Also, give Omar credit for not giving up Pelfrey and F-Mart in the Santana trade.

pretty much all i did was went to the brookyn cyclones website and rattled off a bunch of people and your right kazmir was under phillips

this next thing has noting to do with this btw

i just remembered the 2003 cyclones pitching rotation

1. Scott Kazmir

2. brian Bannister

3. Matt Lindstrom

4. booby Parnell

5.Bob Keppel

holy shit that is a good starting rotation for a minor league team (all five of them have pitched in the majors at some point) they made to the championship that year (best 2 out of 3 series) they lost in game 3 by a score of 3 to 2 guess who blew that game noe other then.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Aaron fucking Heilman

DELGADO FOR MVP even though he wont win

no offense rory but you're in the minority with minaya. 4 years is too long and i think they shouldve have waited till the season was over to do this. if we lose the division to the phillies i really dont think minaya deserves it based on the last two years. some quotes i've seen on various sites. (not word for word can't remember where too lazy to look for them)

"hopefully they hire an assistant with the title "in charge of finding bullpen members" than i'll be okay with it."

"minayas M.O. is to trade away young talent for hispanic talent" (something i don't think is true but is something to think about)

basically most people think he has swooned(weird word i know) the wilpons onto his good side with talk, but honestly i don't buy into minaya's long-term solutions because i don't think he has one

i really don't give him that much credit for the santana trade cause the twins already knew martinez was off limits and i think they took humber over big pelf cause of pelfs struggles. but w/e i just think that was a gift we should thank the twins very much for that for what we had to give up(although i love me some carlos gomez bunt singles)

and in a totally unrelated topic how much does luis castillo suck?

I take no offense when people disagree with me. I usually prefer to be in the minority which is part of the reason I made the blog. I think casual fans have no idea what they are talking about (no offense to anyone).

I think that people don't give Omar enough credit, especially for the moves he DID NOT make. Barry Zito is not in our starting rotation. That money went to Johan Santana. Also, if we traded for him mid-season we probably wouldn't have Church or Schneider. Speaking of catchers, who nixed the Yovit Torrealba deal? Also take a guess which catcher is not starting in Colorado anymore.

Omar has put together this year's bullpen but he also put together the bullpen of 2006, one of the best in the MLB. Also, you have to think about the way that Willie and Manuel have been overusing guys. Omar found guys like Bradford, Darren Oliver, Stokes, Knight, Figueroa and Feliciano, gave them a shot, and resurrected their careers. So in reality Omar has done a very good job at finding cheap help for the bullpen without having to give up prospects. Notice how we didn't trade for Gange or Linebrink.

Also don't take credit away from Omar for the Santana trade. He didn't get lucky he was smart. Also, Humber had major surgery and wasn't doing much better than Pelf. I personally liked Humber and Gomez alot too but I knew Pelf was better. The Mets definitely came out on top for that trade so far. You're knocking Omar for his bad moves and saying he got lucky for his good ones. Why can't he just be a good GM who has made mistakes. Also, name one GM who hasn't made mistakes.

Luis Castillo has been a bust and that was one of Omar's mistakes. Castillo can still useful if he gets healthy for once.

I think minaya is doing a goob job,and im a yankee fan. The only thing is he wants a 100% spanish team.

The Red King said...

Let me add that he also passed on signing Livan Hernandez this winter in order to give Mike Pelfrey a chance to start.

well i'm gonna try to reserve my judgement on this until the middle of next season like i said last comment the timing was very very weird and they shouldve waited till either the end of the season or the beginning of next season.

i'm definitely not for it 100% but i'm not totally against because he does have the potential to be an excellant GM.

eh i always try to put a positive spin on whatever moves the mets make even the bad ones and search for positves but theres a fine line of just being a total fanboy/spazzo and being what people call "real fan"(i hate that term btw)

also bstro sherlock has more friends than you. kazmir was a clone in 02 and pitched in 3 games total, parnell was in 05 and aaron never ever was one.

btw 3 out of 4 guys on around the horn( i know theyre idiots but theyre better than skip bayless) sold this decision (at least the timing, which is what i would "sell" in this situation why couldnt you wait one more month)

I'll admit the timing was weird but I think Omar had done a good job for the most part and this was a good call.
