Mets Sign K-Rod

The Mets and K-Rod have agreed to a 3 year deal worth $37 million along with a 4th year option that kicks in depending on innings pitched. I am actually happy with this move (although I would have gone in a different direction) because it is only for 3 or 4 years and not a ridiculous amount of money per year. I have always like K-Rod and am happy to see him become a Met. I personally would have signed Kerry Wood because of draft picks but that's just me. Now I would love to see the Mets get Chad Cordero, Adam Dunn, Houston Street or Brandon Lyon, Pedro Martinez or Brad Penny, Oliver Perez or Ben Sheets, and a few reclamation projects like Derrick Turnbow, Eric Gagne, Mark Prior, Mark Mulder, Bartolo Colon, etc. (minor league deals).

what do u think of heilman for street?

I'm not a big fan of Street and I like Heilman but I would definitely make the trade b/c Heilman needs a change of scenery in order to be as good as he can be. I don't think the Rockies would do it straight up though.

i hope the shea faithful (... or is it the citi faithful now?) aren't too hard on him at first.

Hard on K-Rod? The majority of Mets fans wanted K-Rod more than the other closers on the market (not me). As long as he doesn't start blowing saves right off the bat (pun intended) then they shouldn't be too hard on him.

exactly, hes good but he wasnt my first choice.

but hes probably the most frustrating reliever in baseball to watch. mets fans think theyre getting a shut down closer which is so far from the truth.

as an angel fan ive watched him and know exactly how he is. i love the guy and appreciated all hes done with the angels but look... hes a human roller coaster.

every season for him is a season filled with such heart attack inducing moments as walking two guys and giving up a homer to bring the other team back to within 1, throwing about 60 pitches to get through the 9th inning, and walking the bases full.

his slider is one of if not thee nastiest pitches in the game but if hes not controling it well (which is often) then were in trouble. typical K-Rod save is walk the first, K the second, walk the next two, and then get an inning ending double play.

his WHIP is AWFUL. Kevin Gregg for Christ sakes has a better WHIP.

a closer is suppose to give fans a sense of calm, not K-Rod I cringe every time he enters the game because chances are hes going to make it very, very interesting.

all I'm saying is that when hes pitching his drama-filled innings is that the fans will get frustrated, especially if he blows them... he might have the record but hes no Brad Lidge.

The only thing that we can have some hope is that since he is only 27, maybe his best years won't be behind him. I personally would have gotten Wood so we wouldn't have had to give up our draft picks.

He rarely gets through an inn ing withput walkin someone which is similar to what we have now but at least he can recover and still get the save unlike what we have now
