Congratulations Phillies

The Phillies won the World Series last night just as I had a feeling they would once the Rays were their opponent. Congrats, they deserved it. I don't hate the Phillies like a great deal of Mets fans do, I just don't like them. Also, I do not see the Phillies as our rivals. Our rivals are and forver will be the Braves. The Rays aren't the new rivals to the Red Sox just because the Yankees weren't in the equation this year. I don't like Jimmy Rollins, Brett Myers, or Cole Hammels but I do like Ryan Howard, Lidge, and Utley. I hate Phillie fans more than I hate the Phillies themselves. Anyway, Mets '09!

Pelfrey said it right:

"It doesn't make you mad," Pelfrey said. "What it does is make you think, 'That could have been us.'"

FACT: Cole Hamels will win one Cy Young... and eleven Cole Hamelses.

And it shouldn't make them mad because its obvious they are better than us. I really enjoyed watching this team play for the last part of the season.

People hate J-Roll for no reason. Honestly, I think its because they are jealous were stuck with Reyes for a long time who has shown he isn't fit to wash J-Roll's jock when the games matter.

Pat Gillick is brilliant and this shows what happens when a good GM builds the team and not an idiot. Please take notes Omar.

no steve that is not why i don't like rollins. I just never liked him, even when the Phillies sucked. and technically he was wrong, the mets were the team to beat in 2007 because the mets gave it away and were in the lead for majority of the season thus forcing the phillies to beat them not vice versa....

also why would i be jealous that the phillies have him and the mets have reyes (the better player). Rollins did nothing in the W.S. btw tstro. the only thing that rollins can do better than reyes is hit for power. theres a good shot that hamels could win a cy young but definitely not a fact yet. Omar has built a good team and he is not an idiot. the team and injuries blew it, not omar

I'd take J-Roll over Reyes any day. I don't care about season stats I just want a winner. Someone who would take the team on his back and not back down from a challenge and motivate his team. J-Roll lead the Phils to the playoffs last year and won an MVP in the process. Look at his batting average this September, then he tore up the Brewers and KO'ed the Dodgers. He played out of his mind in games 3 and 4 of the series. He's a leader.

Reyes shuts down in September every year and blows it then shys away from the pressure. When things are going good he'll be all in the spotlight in the media saying "I so happy" or whatever. When things are going bad he's nowhere to be seen. It pissed me off so much this year watching poor David Wright have to answer question after question about the collapse and Reyes is nowhere to be seen. If he is supposedly the guy who makes this team go then where is he when the going gets tough. Last year he had another awful September then almost got thrown out of the second to last game of the year for something stupid.

I know he's "THEMOSTEXCITINGPLAYERINBASEBALL!" but he's not a winner. Take the Yankee game over the summer in what was a big game for us confidence-wise he gets himself picked off second base in the late innings cause he was trying to dance around, absolute bonehead move and blew the game (but it was probably a pretty exciting play, I'd go far as saying it was the most exciting play in baseball on that day) same goes for those two double plays he screwed up in two different months against the Phils. He's had incidents before where he's shown up his manager, not run balls out, swung for the fences in big situations and failed miserable when all we needed was a hit or a baserunner, and thrown his glove down on the field like a spoiled little girl. He's too obsessed with his stupid little dances and high five routines which do nothing but show up the other team. He's not a leader nor a winner.

For example before Jenkins hit his leadoff double in game 5 J-Roll called him over and told him "hit a double so I can bunt you over to third" and thats exactly what happened. Thats a TEAMMATE, wanting to give himself up for the better of the team. Thats a leader motivating his guys. Its stuff like that helps a team win championships.

The teams Omar have built have failed. The guy can't construct a bullpen to save his life. Gillick is amazing and has 3 rings to prove it, he also the O's to the playoffs in back to back years and the Mariners as well. He knows the TEAM first concept and that it takes chemistry, something Omar hasn't figured out. Everyone in the offseason wanted Santana but no Gillick got Pedro Feliz, Brad Lidge, and Jenkins. At the deadline everyone wanted Man-Ram, Harden, or CC but no Gillick got Scott Eyre (who if he is not a Met next year I will kill Omar), Joe Blanton, and Matt Stairs, the three missing pieces to the puzzle. He's hit all the right buttons and made all the right moves (one of the right moves being to know when to stop over-bidding on Billy Wagner in terms of money and years.)
