Rumors: Beltran and Church

There have been several rumors floating around about the Mets shopping around Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church. One such rumor is a Beltran to the Yankees trade. The Mets would send Beltran and in return get Cano (with the Yanks eating some salary), either Jose Veras or Brian Bruney, Ian Kennedy, and another prospect from the Yankees system (WasWatching.com). Why on earth would the Mets trade the best CF in baseball for an overrated 2b, a middle relief pitcher, an overrated prospect who was terrible this year, and another prospect? The Mets would then have 2 second basemen on their hands and 0 starting centerfielders. Who would the Mets put in center? It's not like they have a MLB ready prospect ready to take over to Beltran. They could put Chavez in center and sacrifice a ton of offense or move Church over and sacrifice defense and leave the question of who will play RF. Also, officials said the Mets aren't necescarily "shopping" Beltran or listening to "offers" but will be hearing "inquiries" from other teams. This makes it unlikely that he will be moved but has a better chance of being moved than Wright or Reyes. I do not think that this rumor will ever happen because it makes no sense on the Mets part.

Another rumor floating around for the past couple of weeks is the idea of trading Ryan Church. Church burst onto the NY scence and quickly became a fan favorite in his first year in NY before he suffered multiple concussions that forced him out of the lineup for many weeks. When he returned Church did not play at the same level and was never able to get into a rythm. He was also playing the last couple of weeks of the season with a hip injury. Mike Francesa said on his show that his sources told him that Church hates playing in NY and does not like the Mets team. However, when Church first came off the DL and played his first game since the concussions he got a standing ovation that moved both him and his wife. He said his wife cried at the ovation. Church also said at the time he would be open to signing a long term contract and buying out his remaining arbitration years. I like Church and actually want to buy a Los Mets Church jersey. I would be open to signing him to a long term contract. He is a very good outfielder with a very strong and accurate arm. He can swing a good bat and hits for a decent average with good pop. He even showed he can hit left handers this year and in past years. I would be open to trading Church depending on who we get. The only Mets I would be completely be opposed to trading are Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Maine, Pelfrey, and Santana. I also don't see Church getting traded because we also don't have anyone to replace him. I just don't see it happening but I wouldn't be shocked if it did happen.

the only offensive player i would want to trade for and be willing to give someone valuable up for that might be available would be carl crawford

but hes not hispanic so not happening

The Church trade rumors come from Mike Francesca being a retard. The talk that Church didn't like playing in New York isn't true, and so I see no reason whatsoever that Church will be leaving NY anytime soon. Rightly so, he's a great player and I think he can be a .300/20/85 kind of guy.

Yeah the church nonsense does come from something dumb mike said.

I actually wouldn't be opposed to trading beltran but we would have to be getting something very very good in return to convince me. this trade mentioned is crap for both sides.

how about beltran for sheffield and todd jones? we have sheffield play right field, and move reyes to center. then we have castillo play ss and murphy at second. and guess what? two girls one cup on this one. we solve our problem in right and our problem at closer. this is also assuming that we trade church to the braves for john smoltz. good ideas.

Anonymous said...

that is about the dumbest thing i have ever heard

Anonymous said...

that's why you're not a gm jackass.

Anonymous said...

i'd rather die in a fire than let you make the gm decisions for the mets.

Anonymous said...

y would you give up beltran for sheffield and jones sheffield is old and washed up and jones wouldnt be any different then what we have remember his nickname is rollercoasterand y would you want castillo even on the field hes bad and old reyes in center is just plain dumb and church for john shmoltz is really dumb church is fine remember he missed half the year for a concussion and everybody expected god himself to walk on the field shmoltz is old and injured the only semi smart thing you said was movin murphy to 2nd it really is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard

i've posted the troll city and the die in a fire comments not the other ones those were someone else

wow bstro wow have you ever heard of sarcasm that is what he is using

which is why he needs to stop being a troll and go die in a fire and pretty much just basically fuck off along with "king of the plastics" and fellow spazzo stevie d

these guys are holding your blog back from glory rory!

Anonymous said...

what's holding this blog back is the fact that we can't talk about todd jones or gary sheffield being on the mets. also, trolls can't die in fires. get up on your sci-fi, g.i. joe. rory, this kids incorrect use of sci-fi terms is holding your blog back from becoming the god of all mets baseball blogs. if i were you, i'd hunt this boy down and give him a lesson in the genre of science fiction before you're blog is cancelled.

anonymous is right on this one guys.

thankyou rory. apparently my management decisions do bode well with the blogs creator. reyes in center is the best place on the field for him. sheff would add a little pop in the middle of the lineup and finally give this roster a little personality after three seasons of a tim duncanesque emotional range. and who doesn't like roller coasters? that's why we need todd jones. end of topic
FOOLS

I'm pretty sure the Yankees didn't offer that trade either, y would they want another a-rod? anyway, the mets should keep church and beltran since it will give them a very good young OF core. Then focus on Lf and pitching, esp. bullpen

(comment b4 this by)*stevie D

i'm confused by that last comment. why would the yankees want another a-rod? i mean..statistically speaking, why wouldn't you want another player with great numbers? and i'm not aware of any extracurricular problems with beltran either. so i really don't see the point there.

The Red King said...

First let me say that the trade isn't happening.... Now to the comment...Want another A-Rod? That makes no sense Steve. Other than being two of the best players in the game there aren't many similarities. I'm assuming you mean the "clutch" factor which in my mind is overrated by many but w/e. A-Rod has the notion of being "unclutch" for continually not producing in the post season and late in games (with exception to 2007). Beltran has been given the title of "unclutch" by some members of the media for striking out to end the 2006 NLCS. Beltran however is not unclutch. Beltran has always preformed well in the post season. Beltran has for the most part preformed well late in games. He also hit that 2-run HR to tie the game in the last game of the season. He hit .344 in September of this year. Beltran is not on the same level of "clutch" as A-Rod.

how bout we just dont trade beltran at all

Anonymous said...

my final contribution to this poor discussion and a serious post at that is that beltran was the only one who did anything at all the last week.....him and ramon martinez

gained a lot of respect for him for playing hurt and still doing that

i think its pure freakin bullshit that people label him as soft and unclutch annoys the hell out of me

so what he struck out on a nasty curveball to end the series in 06

he has hit a ton of walkoff hrs as a met

sheesh

another a-rod, hillarious and absolutely stupid comment

peace out ya bitches my work here is done i've worked up the troll anonymous and exposed more plasticity from the king of them

does monday morning cleanup hitter mean that you get to have sex with your gf on monday morning after she's already had sex with 3 other guys?

Anonymous said...

hey..you didn't take care of the troll...you told me to go die in a fire, but as i've stated, trolls cannot die in fires. i'm still around. the simple act of you saying that you took care of the troll doesn't actually mean that you actually accomplished anything. all you said was go die in a fire and that b-stro didn't understand a sarcastic tone. if anything, you've accomplished absolutely nothing other than saying that you accomplished things. I mean, i guess that's an accomplishment for someone who doesn't really understand what accomplishing something actually entails. you're the lazy-man's accomplished person.

option A

yeah but i don't mind your mom seeing other people

option B

no but you would love to be the guy who is #4 just so you could get some

option C

no it means i hit 4 girls on monday morning and drive them all in

ah the beauty of internet smack talk

this thread might have some life in it yet, i have underestimated you anonymous

i said i worked up the troll not taken care of them, reading comprehension my man

and i have accomplished the working up part considering you are still writing comments

Anonymous said...

yeah..but not really..i was the one who started talking, so technically and accurately speaking, i worked you up. see, trolls, along with their ability to withstand flames, also have an ability to work everyone else up. i got you going. you're the one who's still speaking if you look at the natural progression of this conversation. if you learned reading comprehension well, you would have been able to comprehend the chronology of the events that have taken place these last few days.

Anonymous said...

alright if you shitheads wanna talk about trolls and what they can and cant do go start a blog for that but this is a baseball blog so either shut up talk about baseball or start anothr blog abot trolls

Dennis DeVivo

Keep in mind this is coming from a Yankee fan.

I'm not a big fan of Beltran. He does everything well, defense extremely well, but nothing outstanding in my opinion. I don't want to give up Cano, Veras and Bruney will be solid, and right now nobody wants Ian Kennedy. I know Beltran would be an upgrade in center but it creates holes in the bullpen and at second. Also, it makes no sense for the Mets.

Anonymous said...

he's right..what makes sense is picking up sheff and jones..get that in your heads

Anonymous said...

i meant another a-rod in terms of a huge contract, which the yankees dont need any more of, as well as being a quiet guy and not a vocal team leader.

The Red King said...

The Yankees can afford it not only because they already are most likely going to add another huge contract or two this offseason but also because they have a good amount of $ coming off the books due to FA. Also, Beltran is only due $19 million, which is arguably below market price from a player of his caliber. Jeter is getting paid more.
