Johan Santana = New Favorite
Johan Santana today underwent knee surgery because he had a torn meniscus. How long has Johan Santana been dealing with pain in his knee one may ask? How about the whole month of September. Yes September, the same month he won pitcher of the month. Truly amazing. He did not tell the team about the pain. He pitched with a torn meniscus on the second to last day of the season on 3 days rest. A game in which he threw a 3 hit complete game shut out. Johan Santana is truly amazin'. He should win the Cy Young regardless of this new news. However now that we know this, there is no doubt in my mind he should win the Cy Young. This shows the type of player and competitor Santana is. Johan Santana will go down as a legend in Mets lore, even if they did not make the post season.

did cy young ever get hurt? NO. you don't give the cy young to people who admit they are hurt. that is a sign of weakness that mr. young would look down upon. void this article. NOW. VOID.

bstro, you silly, silly boy...Cy Young never was hurt during his career. this is more of an award for pitchers who don't get hurt than anything else. My votes with Brandon Webb. Plus, he won the most games.

Althoug Santana was brilliant, he came on strong down the stretch as he always does. He didn't lose in his last 16 or so starts. Thats the most important stat. Secondly, he pitched a hell of a game on 3 days rest but people are overexaggerating it. After all C.C. did for the past two weeks. If you look at the CY Young from the whole season, then it only leaves Webb and Lincecum. On a good team Lincecum would have won hands down, but since he's not Webb has the most wins and is in the top five in most other categories, not to mention he is the only 20 game winner in the NL. Santana may be more valuable than Webb, but is not a better candidate for CY Young.

He is most definitely a better candidate than Webb for Cy young. The award goes to the best pitcher for the year not the pitcher with the best bullpen and run support. Johan was the best pitcher all year long.
